Not just yet.. but after im done with the lightweight obsession i would like to fit a cage for a confidence booster/safety aspect.. so doesnt have to be fia approved or meet any requirements.. just actually help stop the car from bein crushed to smitherines if something bad were to happen. Looked at safety devices cages.. jonspeed cages.. shuddersfield cages *oh well* im a confident welder so would even be up for making my own so 1- can you hire pipe benders? 2. Whats best to use? As its all well n good me bending up n welding a lovely looking cage just for the material that i used to be no good and just splitting/cracking/bending or whatever it would do if not correct material?

Any help/advice you brainy bunch? Thanks in advance *happy*

If you are serious then buy a Safety Devices cage. A lot of the rest are "show" cages or in other words useless inferior shite.

For the hassle factor, i'd simply buy as tom has suggested. I've always had the opinion that a poorly designed or installed cage can be as dangerous or worse than not having one.

Find a good local rally prep guy who can build cages.

It'll likely be cheaper than an off the shelf unit, and if he's any good at all, it will fit better too.

A cage really isnt something I'd DIY for many reasons.

If you can weld/fab then you can get weld in kits from quite a few people. Big job tho. Not something to take on lightly but if you knew what you were doing you'd probably realise that.

You might be able to find FIA/your local regulations on cages? I would think a certain grade of steel would be needed and certain angles are needed (The back-stays had to be around 30 degrees IIRC)

You have seen my cage and its made to fit me/my mini (you can order it if you want, but freight from Australia might be expensive). It has 6 welded bases with captive nuts. The rest of the cage is all bolt in.
it is made to meet/surpass all CAMS (Confederation of Australian Motorsport) regulations.
Our road rules forbid front cages, hence why my cage is bolt in. I can take the front half and retain everything behind the seats (main hoop and backstays) for road use
