Hi
I am looking to put a A+engine metro 1300 turbo in my Midas .
I want +- 130 to 150 hp on the wheels .
Some people who did this gor problems when they where in jam traffic because the heat in the engine space, the fiberglass started to melt and the brake oil was boiling , etc......
I understand that this problems are related of the need of a good cooling ......
But before I start to invent the wheel again , I want to inform me first by people with more experience in this matter .
So all info is welcome !

geert talk to hans on the midas forums. I've got a turbod Midas gold and haven't had any problems. I just have decent heat matting around the engine bay, heat wrap on the manifold and a turbo blanket

Hi Wolfie
I know Hans from the Midas Forum and he explained his bad experience with the metro turbo with his Midas .
But I am sure ( I hope !) that there must be a technical solution for that .
I think with reliable coolingfans etc.... you should be able to control the heat ..????
I hope I get some good ideas here on the forum to eliminate the heatbuilding during jam traffics .

Hy. Your from belgium right. You can get some heat reflecting foil with a rally shop not far from here. He used it on a escort with polyester nose and worked pretty well. Not cheap since it has gold reflection on it.

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

I ran a turbo in my sabre Sprint, which is similar to the Midas under the bonnet. Never had any heat issues.

Heat issues when stationary are easy to manage. It's the heat of the turbo and manifold on boost that needs though.

Heat shields and keeping the turbo away from the bulkhead is the key. I think using the metro t3 and manifold is a nonstarter.

You said " I think using the metro t3 and manifold is a nonstarter"
Do you mean this is not a good base for a tuned turbo engine ?

There are a few previous posts about people having a bad experience with that seller. That auction has been up for years. The only change is the price.

No, mainly because it won't fit without serious bulkhead modifications and you do want to keep it clear of the GRP by 20+mm.

Benross on here has built engines for people in the past. Always has good feedback.

Sorry but my technical English is not super , so what means :

"serious bulkhead modifications and you do want to keep it clear of the GRP by 20+mm"

The metro turbo T3 will not fit between the engine and the bulkhead (bulkhead = the structure between the engine bay and the interior).

To make it fit you'd have to cut the bulkhead and modify it to allow fitment. This is a pain to do.

As a rough guide, I'd suggest having 20mm gap between the turbo and the bulkhead.

Does this make more sense?

yes , now I fully understand , thanks !
On the other hand there's a guy from the Netherlands who has put on metro turbo in his mk3 midas without changing anything (I am not 100% sure)) , I will ask him .
But for sure ,he had problems with the heating of the innerside .

I have news about the possibility to put a metro turbo 1300 in a Midas MK3.
The engine fits without any problem without doing any modification.
The only remark:you must find a good/best place for the oilcooler and the cooling ,as said before, in the inner room of the engine , which should be possible with reflecting blankets and adequate coolingfans.
