Hi folks,

Just been out in the mini enjoying the sun.

It's always had a bit of a whine when idling but I put it down to the sc drop gears.

Today it seemed to get worse, so much so it stalled when in neutral which it never had done before!

any ideas what it could be?

I've got London to Brighton next week end which I really g
hope I can make!!

Thanks
Josh

Just came home and the symptoms are worse.

When it was cool it seemed fine. As it git to temperature it was worse.
jumps out of 2nd gear going from 1st or down from 3rd.
It's ok in 3rd if I'm changing up (skipping 2nd) but it makes a right old racket going down to 3rd from 4th.
Also at idle it will sound fine then it'll sound as if it's trying to select a gear on its own!? Then cuts out!?

L2b isn't looking likely at the moment :(

Verto or pre verto clutch? Properly adjusted? Sounds like you need to take the wok off for a look.

Pre verto it has a lightened flywheel and backplate. I think it's a yellow type diaphragm aswell.

It's been working fine up until now.

Think I'm going to take the engine out and fit a spare reconditioned box I have. Might fit my atb while it's out. Interested to see how different it'll feel.
Annoying as I wanted to go London to Brighton this weekend and keep the mini as is until the winter. :(

Is the clutch adjusted properly? Could the release bearing be constantly applying pressure on the spring?

Yes it's been fine for at least 2000 miles

This came out this evening when I drained the oil!

What do you guys think it is? Idler gear bearing?

Was going try and do it but don't wanna make mistakes lol.
I was hoping not to touch this engine until I take it out in the winter for the turbo engine!

providing there is no other damage, you could have it done over a couple of evenings

I'd say that this damage demands a full rebuild. You will have to check the crank bearings.
