Another day another problem......

I have a really strong smell of fuel coming from the front of my car i have checked all the pipes for splits and there are none, I have make sure all the clips are nice and tight.

I can see that the bottom of the carb is getting wet and it is dripping onto the arm of the acturater. this is a bit concerning as i really don't want a home made fire place taking place of my engine......Besides i want to t=be buried not cremated. (eek) Anyway where could this leak be coming from....should the carb leak under pressure as i have recently had a bleed valve fitted....

Any help would be much appreciated

It was like that when i got there!

It could be the carb itself... there are a few places it can leak.

The bottom of the carb seals off the float chamber - are those screws tight?

Best take it off and have a look!

As AF says - it's the carb.

Do yourself a favour and buy a rebuild kit off Iain and replace all the seals. They're bound to be at least 16 years old - maybe even 22 years!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

and would you believe it i have one in stock *smiley*

if you do want one though, they're ?45 posted for all the bits you need and more *smiley*

I had a carb leak out the bottom, if its been sat then the bottom o-ring shrinks and leaks, also the carb spindle seals could be leaking under boost. all sorts of things.

Thanks guys i have solved the problem now. You're right it was the o ring at the bottom of the carb...plus the fact that my crappy engine mount ( yes, mount ie 1) has let my carb bash against the bulk head and the bottom plate of the carb was warpped! lol

I like the smell of fuel in the morning *happy*

I have had the mount rubber replaced for some sold ones now...but i have no where to mount another brace......

A -team stylee i think i need to make one (cue music)

Have you got the extra steadies going to the back of the subframe, coming off the gearbox casing ?

I haven't but i am working on it, is that the best method of stopping it rock then?

i have got one for the front of the gear box which i need to mount which is going on soon. KAD do the rear ones don't they?

I need to modify the box anyway cause there is not enough space to get a modded acturator in *frown* SO i suppose a welding a ultimate is more than possible..

Yes the ultimate head steady is what you want, though as you know you will have chopped off the area it usually bolts to, so you'll need to fabricate a bracket for the bulkhead end. If you do that I think you'll find it loads better.

The head steady is the good, but adding the others as well can only help. Mine were Minispares items.
As for the head steady bracket, here's one i "bodged" earlier. lol
