another exhaust question

on my 988 i have a system made by longlife which is a downpipe which is 2.5" down to a 2" pipe with a pretty big silencer at the back.

now i cant hear the exhaust over the engine and because im a chav im think of maybe getting rid of it completly.

do you guys think it will be too loud?

I'm sure mike race ran his without a silencer and robert perhaps when he is on the track. Maybe some youtube footage somewhere

Just looked at mikes and i think it was when he was running the side mount that he didn't silence it. No doubt someone with more knowledge on the cars will correct me

you need a silencer for the mot

I was there when roberts car was on the rollers with that exhaust.... and its not exactly quiet!

as its tuned lenth you get quite a resonance at peak power, also once the waste gate is well open an open exhaust will make a racket.

I was thinking the same, but son changed my mind after trying it.

I've ended up using a cut down 2"bike can. It's much loader than the 2" maniflow it replaced, but sounds much nicer than without any silencing at all. You can certainly hear it over the gearbox now.

A friend of a friend has a pipe bender... was thinking of just having a 2" stainless steel pipe all the way from down pipe to the back.. possibly no silencers.. just a pipe following the normal minis exhaust route.. (may sleeve the rear bit with a rc40 back box just to make it look like its got one for pc plod ) i understand it wont be crazy loud due to the turbo... ive been told my 2" maniflow is restrictive so will the straight pipe help things or make it worst?? Obviously its for a performance and weight saving point of view

i used to have a full 2 inch from down pipe back no silencers. fine for the track

when the waste gate opens is when it gets loud on a full straight system

im using a 2" straight thru with a PATRIOT SMITHY'S MUFFLER 30" long x 3.5"

its just a glass pack with decant perforations inside it

it took the ricer note out and made it more like a boxer engine sound but not that annoying groan that rattles your ears out

i like it also can hear the turbo at idle and spool really well

Never once had any issues running no silencer, even for MOT

1/4 Mile 14.3secs 96Mph Terminal 10psi of boost.
