hey all, i'v got a turbo off an RX7, i just about finished making a stainless steal exhaust manifold. Tig weld'd together with gass flow on inside and outside of the weld, i was going to stress relieve it and support mount the turbo to reduce load on the manifold but i'v herd stainless steal manifolds are prone to cracking, would i be better off with a mild steal exhaust made from thicker pipe mig welded the same way and stress relieved?

Thanks Chris

Mild is crap, your much better off using stainless. The ideal way to stop it cracking is to use an exhaust "bellows" in each runner. This allows the manifold to expand and contract without stressing it.

mmmmmm, buga, do you recon it's worth using the staino one im already 3/4 way through finishing or start from scratch? And would a "belows" set up (sorry, dont realy know how to word this) reduce the amount of flow through the manifold in comparison to staino pipe?

Thanks. Chris

Possibly, due to the "ribs" of the bellows. Though i don't know how much this would effect things .....

I'll try and get some pictures of my mates setup. He's got a Janspeed stylee arrangement. He ran it without the bellows last year and had loads of trouble with it blowing manifold gaskets, as it tried to pull and twist away from the head. It also cracked in a couple of places.
This year with a bellows fitted in each runner and a larger one in the collector pipe he's had no trouble at all.

Can you buy these bellows or do they need to be made up? and if they need to be made up how does one go about doing this?
