This is from a project that I'm doing and documenting on TMF http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/topic/302910-ruy-resto/, it is mainly bodywork at the mo so I thought there's not much techy/interesting stuff for turbominis to get their teeth into, however I've had some severe problems with painting so am asking for your advice.

Post #6 shows the problems with the paint, any ideas? what would you do in this situation..

Any thoughts/ideas welcome

Sam.

I used, upol etch primer, then gravitex stone chip and 2 pack body colour over that. No issues.

The stone chip will seal the primer. I put body colour on top to make it look nice and make it easy to clean.

Maybe not 100% set before next type of paint? Ive used hammerite stonechip in black for loads of stuff before n love it! Yet i used the same stuff in white and that just peeled off like some of your pics... understandably disapointing but it happens

Have you got a link to the exact type of stonechip you used?
Gravitex has always worked well for me.

Isn't the epoxy supposed to be laid on top of the bare metal? I always thought the epoxy bonds itself to the metal surface better than 2k primer.

Ok so I read it wrong, however, stonechip doesn't really stick to gloss finish. Etch primer is adequate then stone chip, then top coat. Also, seam sealer shrinks a lot afterwards. Stone cho p tends to be a hard finish while the seam sealer is softer, this causes the stone chip to crack and flake off. That said it does look like there has been a reaction between the stone chip and the epoxy. Stone chip also takes ages to go off properly and the thicker it is the longer it takes.

To be honest I hate stone chip, and I use it in only a few areas such as the sills and rear inner archeverywhere else gets the under body wax and plenty of it
