For a while on and off I have been toying with getting a Plasma cutter. I haven't looked for some months, had a quick look today and they seem pretty cheap now to me, some for less than £150.

Any advice or pointers on these machines? A lot are obviously Chinese, but in fairness so is my TIG welder, and that has done me great service.

I have no burning need for one just think it would come in handy, the UK based ones are too dear for my needs at £400+

Cheers

I've got a Cut 40 as well, it has done everything I have asked of it which has been largely sheet metal work, it runs fine on my 50l 1 HP compressor.

the only thing id suggest is one that can self light for expanded metal ie pull the trigger with the torch nowhere near the metal and it lights up vs mine where you need to touch the metal to light it off not sure what thats called as a function

EDIT: also consider the replacement cost and availability of consumables
