Why do you not run cable clutches?

Just been thinking about this as i was reading about people extending their clutch arms to run an RTS.. I run the cable clutch on my metro still and it works a dream (twin turbo plate RTS). Surely it saves a fair bit of weight? Has anyone considered it on mini? Weighed the various bits?

I would say it would likely be heavier than the plastic can master etc. There's a lot of metal in the brackets and the cable is surprisingly heavy for what it is.

Nic Riz was looking at this a few years back I think.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

The cable is quite heavy but theres just the one bracket on the clutch cover which can be slimmed down quite a bit and probably weighs about the same as the bracket on the hyrdo verto setup if not a bit lighter.. You can take some weight out of the fork on the end of the cable too.

no slave, no cylinder, no fluid, same bracket pretty much. Slightly longer arm if you compare with the hyrdo verto but if your enlarging it its similar.

Might not save alot but ive seen people on here spend silly money to get a few 100g off their cars so i think people are probably missing a trick.

Interesting thought,

I will say, when I ran metro's I had a few faliures of the plastic bit on the end of the cable that hooks onto the pedal.

There was also a kit at one time that was like a push rod setup, can't think who used to make it.

SH Engineering. It was for Pre-Verto though.

Warwick.

I had the SH engineering clutch kit, with my grey plate it was a very heavy clutch! and no good for general driving about really. My knee swelled up a little on the london to brighton run from it

I think I've got some cable Verto arms somewhere.

Somewhere...
(and MadMk1's seen the size of the somewhere...)

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

Few people would ever favour cable vs hydraulic on any engine platform, and I really doubt the weight saving if any would ever be worth it vs a good light hydraulic setup

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
