So I was doing some work to the mini on Saturday, I drove it from storage to my house and all was dandy. I spent the day fitting carpet to my boot and at the end of the day wanted a spin. Unfortunately it won't start which was quite random, after a few checks it turns out I have no spark.

I've had MJ in the car for about 7 years (that's megajolt not Michael Jackson, I'd say he'd be a bit wiffy at this point) with no issues. I have power to the megajolt and EDIS, I checked the plug on the coilpack, it is live, earths are fine, no loose wires that I can see. When I plug the laptop in I can access my current map, when I crank it the MAP gauge moves but the Rev counter stays at 0. I had a quick look at the VR sensor, I removed it in case it had picked up some dirt, it was clean but I haven't tested it other an that.

I have a spare EDIS, of unknown condition though and plugged that in, no joy. My question is, should I see RPM on the laptop whilst cranking? If I'm not I take it that suggests no signal from VR to EDIS or from EDIS (PIP) to MJ? I am looking for a lead to work from! Thanks!

Check you've got 12 volts still in the battery, if you've had the doors open all day might of dropped below that. Th MJ won't work with anything less than 12 volts.

A good point, the doors were open during the day. It turns over fast enough and doesn't sound flat but will check it out. Thanks.

I think the battery is ok however I noticed there was some oily sludge in the pipe from the manifold to the MAP sensor on the MJ. The pipe from MAP to the connection on the case is full of sludge. The MAP sensor is working but the PCB is blackened, have I killed the MJ?

It looks fine, after further investigation I think it's not actually burnt but it's just fumes from the Pipe on the MAP have left a mark. I'm pretty sure the wiring checks out so I'm at the point of replacing components (EDIS VR sensor etc). It's a bit random and frustrating.

Scoosh the circuit down with brake cleaner and itll be fine, and mount it map sensor pointing down to help stop it happening again :)
