Chaps, just a quick one… I took the spark plugs out of the cylinders earlier and stuck the car in gear. I expected to be able to roll the car back and forth and the engine would turn over as in gear. Nothing was happening, couldn't move car, it was like stuck in gear as normal with compression. Am I missing something obvious?

And yes, brakes were all released.

Is it a new build? Valve hitting piston or old engine valve stuck?

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

finish date set for project 1... march 2018

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Yes a new engine built engine. Tried 1st gear, couldn't get it to stay in. Tried it last in reverse...

Try 3rd or 4th

When using the car to turn the engine over the gear ratio is inverted.

If you're in first gear, for every turn of the road wheel, you're trying to turn the crank about 10 times; 4th gear is easier because you only turn the crank about 3 times
