Hi All!,

Just looking for opinions from people who are running solid engine mounts. Are they really as harsh as everyone says or have I made a very bad decision fitting a set?

Cheers!

Graham

Think alot of people just use genuine engine mounts on road cars.
I do with poly bushes from minispares in the steadys.

Bad decision.

Proper rubber mounts then a few engine steadies.

I use the two lower rear gearbox to subby ones and then one at each side at the top to the bulkhead.
All with rubber/poly bushes.

Agreed, not a road item.

Even solid top engine steadies make for a horrible drive.

I'll give them a try and if they are a bit too extreme i'll go back to rubber. Cheers!

I used solid bushes in the top and bottom steadies and the mounts ripped.

I have them on mine! Avoid at all costs on a road! I only used them as I kept tearing standard ones to pieces!

Has anyone ever tried to properly solid mount the engine? like I've seen 'murican drag racers build those massive plates to stop the engine moving? where it almost becomes structural? yeee haaa

Well if you use solid mounts then the engine does become a somewhat stressed member. (oo er!) Cant see much advantage to be gained there tho really.

Which it was never designed for. It's only because the front subfram and mount design allows so much flex that the gearbox survives. With sustained road use I think things will start cracking.

i used new engine mounts, 2 lower gearbox mounts that i modified to be semi solit mounted, and a solid top steady

for a fast road / road race setup i found it to be perfect
as a road car the noise increase would be uncomfortable
but so is the S/C drops....S/C box.. exhaust...solid mounted subframes.... rose jointed bottom arms...it could go on and on...

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I had solid mounts fitted on my last road mini.... hated them. Horrid drive and unbearable noise.

i think the extra peak loads put on the whole drive line from piston threw wheel studs is plenty enugh to not do it

think about it the rubber is a shock absorber for everything cutting the sharpness of vibrations and silly things like flat/hard gear shifts and getting on and off the skinny pedal thease things make decant sized peak loads haveing the engine "flop" around a bit is a good thing its this reson i think a clutch plate with springs is a good idea it dampens the sharpness

i use 4 steadies two cylinder head to fire wall two gearbox to subby and the factory mounts all with rubber and the engine bearly moves its nice and quite
