Soo.. my brother got a 2008 520d M sport 2.0 diesel automatic a few months back, today he broke down.. pulled away, it died, the aa came out and said sensors at fault so towed him to garage and they changed some sensors and still not right? Apparently the cranks out of line so chains snapped?

Anyone familiar with these motors?

Never had it on the diesels but im pretty comfortably into double figures on skipped chains on the 4 cylinder petrols.every sigle time i have had one in with a cam sensir fault code its the chain. That said i have never yet had one do valve damage as they only jump a tooth or two.

Thanks for quick reply.. sounds promising then? You say skip a tooth? So it may not be actually snapped then? He said there was no noise at all

Certain engine codes of the 2.0 diesel are known for this problem. The timing crank sprocket is machined as part of the crank, it wears out then skips the chain. I'm sure a Google will yield more info.

Mm thats pretty grim, on the petrols the sprockets are all replaceable and come in a kit with the chain and guides n that.

The tensioner is a common fail on the 2.0l d.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
