Why is this Special and what the thickness? Anyone know.

I've measured a piece of the one that I?ve just removed and it's around 0.026", Compared to a new one I have that?s 0.040" which would put me way over on the clearance for the idler gear even with the 0.138/9" shims on both sides.

Does anyone have a few gaskets they could measure and post the thickness to give me an idea of the range of thicknesses they come in?

Remember your new gasket is uncompressed, once its clamped up, it should compress a bit.

To measure your end float you need to connect the transfer case to the gearbox to measure the idler clearance, that will give you a good idea if your new gasket is soo big or small.

from what i've found karl is that the decent minispares gaskets sets have thin gaskets whereas the normal conversion sets have really thick black gaskets.

I think i've got a couple of different types ont he wall in me garage but keans just had his verniers back so i cant measure em for you sorry.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

just measured a gasket from minispares (new)

0.031" or 0.8mm

how much it compresses you will have to see!

Ben is that the NON asbestos one they do (22A2237B) if so I?ve just ordered a few.
Plus the one I have new in the garage is 0.040" and looks very OTT on the thickness.
When I measured all the components and worked out the idler shims needed without taking into account the compression of the gasket I couldn't get big enough shims to take up the idler gear end float so the 0.031" gasket will work a treat..

Cheers for that
Karl.
