so i made it as close to the engine as posible ( with my skils)

so this one is useless for dumping the oil now. best to put a 90 degree bend on it and free air it or close it up?

pics above. what would be the best route for the oil dump? route it all the way to the fuelpump hole or get a hole drilled in the gearbox and dump in there?

here i gone give the down pipe a 90 degree bent down and close to the gearbox. then a 15 degree bend fully down

Where the breather is over the drop gears would be where I would be going for, you could weld a pipe in there at a 90" so the it is jut a pipe?

I have started posting on Instagram also my name on there is turbomk1golf

Nothing is impossible it just costs more and takes longer.

yeah, unless it's going in a metro, (and even then), I feel like it's taking up too much real estate. I'd look to have the compressor hsg about 3/4" from the head, and the compressor outlet turned about 140 degrees CW from its current orientation.
Paul S had a pretty good layout, and there was another I recall looked good to. Also consider looking at the Australian 970K land speed record turbo position - there are a lot of good pics on their FB page I recall.
Also, there is nothing to say you have to run the turbo shaft axis longitudinally to the car centre-line; you can clock it round horizontally by say, 20-30 degrees, hence keeping the compressor hsg close to the head, but freeing up space for the manifold feeding the turbo. As I recall, you can mount the garretts upto 10 degrees off horizontal level as well - if that helps in any way?

Just been trough pauls tread on that advise.
Wintersurfer has a simular setup. ( almost identical i thinck ) where the turbo probably sits in almost the same position as mine.
Might indeed turn it a bit more forward so i get closer to the front. Like that i could dump the oil in the dizzy blanc.
(And i force myself into buying a mj instead of going the cheap route)
Ill look into trial fitting it to before any more mods.

Thnx

I would place it higher up, so you can use the breather hole on top of the transfer housing as an oil return. This one I made that sits quite a bit higher up, to allow room for a drain.

I have a few photos of Wintersurfers cut down LCB. These are ancient pics. Since this we have changed both turbo and head flanges.

Worth noting that if we were starting from scratch, we'd place the turbo a bit higher so the drain can go straight into the transfer case. At the moment it's draining into the gearbox. It was draining into the dizzy hole before, but this proved to be too little difference in height, causing the turbo to smoke.

Thanks for them pics! Can't really tell if mine is higher up or not but won't be much of a hight difference. Telling from the pics i do thinck mine is more forward. Tought about drilling and tapping the gearbox to. Not sure though.

Drain plan up now. Although the plan on dilling and tapping the gearbox is still in back of mind .

Shortend another 10 mm ( still out i know. But the diwnpipe really commes down nice like that)

Still tempted to move it up more for easy drain. Although i like the tought of the heat being far from future paintwork now.

Have a mate who has volenteerd to do all piping (oil drain, watter acces and drain, and oil supply ) in copper or stainless steel tubes. Like the look of copper though

Just need to figure out what will come frome where..

Water suply i thought of drilling the water heater valve open and suply it to the turbo

Water return i tought of having it into the upper radiator tube just in front of the rad itself.

Oil drain well... eighter dizzy hole or gearbox.

Oil supply.. no real idea up now. Although the most logic seems to make an y piece between the tube comming from the filter house to the engine blok.

Thoughts apreciated

I'm as a few others on here are using the water drain in the back of the block for the turbo water feed.
Some blocks have them, some don't.
Mine didn't so I drilled it and tapped it. It goes deeper than I first thought!
I'm then going to return the water to the top of the rad. Again I'll have to drill a hole and solder a piece of copper pipe in.

Hope this helps

raised it another 3 cm today and turned it a bit. like so i could get it much closer to the engine. a 45 degree drop would work now to get the oil into the transfercase breather. happy i done it as youll advised. up to the pipework and down pipe now.
