Buying a few bits for an engine rebuild, and there are two transfer housing gaskets available.

One is just under 3 quid and claims to be the correct thickness http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...ack%20to%20shop

The other is about 9 quid and is a Unipart gasket. Minispares claim it helps to prevent oil leaks?? http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/...ack%20to%20shop

Is the extra cost worth it for the Unipart gasket, or has the cheaper one proved up to the job?

Never had oil leaks from the transfer case, thin smear of gasket sealant on each side before assembly, I just use the one in gasket sets that looks to be the cheaper one, not had any problems.

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper

there is a thicker one, and iirc i had clearance issues on something, i think it was the drop gear idler, fitted thin one problem solved

Personally id just use the cheap one with a smear of welseal.

There are different thickness gaskets about which obviously would effect your idler gear clearance so its worth the time to check if your building a decent motor.

Not clicked the links but the black ones are usually thicker, I've used both in the past with no issues so just set your idler clearance to whichever one you use.

Doesn't matter what you use as long as you set the shim the idler gear to suit
