Hi all,

I think a season off and not having a trickle charger has killed my battery, which may not be the end of the world as its big and heavy!

What do people use in terms of batteries? I seem to remember someone was trying a lithium one off eBay, but no amount of searching is letting me find it!
Ideally I want one that will start the car a few times without a back-up battery as the car is mainly hillclimbed. Being ultra light isn't too important as I run in road going, so the car isn't mega light, but don't know what the staring power is like on the likes of red top 25's etc?

Secondly, if I go to a better battery, is it worth getting a trickle charging/ smart charger?

Cheers,

Copied from Audrey_Boy's build thread.

I would be more than happy with anything he chooses. I use a really small one that done its job well but car is rarely used.

So after the usual unhealthy amount of testing and dithering;

My choice of lightweight battery which IMO can best cope with likely maximum in car charge rates and being sat outside in the overnight frost but still able to start

It's not the lightest but was the best compromise whilst sticking to the self imposed rule of saving as much weight as possible but without any loss of function

I really like the terminal posts, some of the other batteries I tried felt like the terminal was going part company with the battery body before you had tightened it sufficiently.

Cheers

This is what I've been using - Minus the charger. I've been using a regular charger when it's needed it. Well happy with it. It has more grunt than the huge standard battery and got me all the way from Harlow to Princess Risborough without a working alternator.

I had one them as well. Good little battery for the money.

I only change it because my alternator reg went and overcharged the battery.

I've just ordered one of those that Gary linked, perfect for what I want, couldn't decide on a battery so got the battery/tray bundle. Thanks!

YTX14-BS was talked about somewhere starting a mini fine. Its a general battery code so i just went for it and bought a good named one.

So, can you just put a lithium battery in place of a lead one and they can cope ok with the alternator charge ok? Saying that, I am tempted by that powervamp one as its probably already a fair saving over the one I have in. What's a standard mini battery weigh in comparison?

Normal ones about 11kg... i nicked a smaller thinner one out of another mini of mine for the turbo but weirdly weighed more?!?!?!
