I've bought some wheels on Ebay, but the seller is sort of strange. Is there anyone near Truro that could go and have a look? :)

So the history is:

I got a second offer on this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/KTM-Husaberg-Supermo...1QQcmdZViewItem

The guy bought them a while back, but are now selling. The strange thing, is that if you look on his feedback, he gets top notch for fast delivery. How could he get this if he's giving me a 2nd chance on them? Sounds suspicious.

So I asked him what was going on, and he wrote this:

I will tell you how the cat jumps. Because I have a business to run here in Truro, Corwall, and I am in process of moving here, in a new home, I asked eBay to help me in order to conclude this transaction with you.
As I am an old user of this website, and I have quite a good reputation here, you should not to worry as long as we have a transaction through eBay website and not outside. eBay will also warrant for me in any moment and will also send you an email, confirming this. I have already been contacted by eBay and they checked out my authenticity, as well as my new address. Even more, they demanded to create an account to Western Union where they have already access and see any activity unfolded there.
I am ready to follow the exact decisions taken by eBay as their user and I suggest you to do the same as an eBay user. The return policy of the package is valid, which means that once you receive the product, you have three days to decide whether or not you keep it. In the meantime, your money will not be picked up from Western Union.
Having all these said, please read the eBay invoice once again and follow their instructions and only this way your money will be safe. Once the payment will be effected, please confirm these details in order to check out the online payment:

1) 10 digit MTCN (Money transfer control number):
2) Exact receiver name (mine) on receipt from Western Union:
3) Exact sender (your's)name on receipt from Western Union:
4) Your street address on receipt from Western Union:
5) City and country from where you have sent the money:
6) Amount sent:

Please, do not forget that the taxes for sending money through Western Union ( fees / charge ) are included in the total price you have negotiated with me, so please deduct them from the total.

I will pay the shipment and the insurance of the package, and as soon as I will have the confirmation of your payment, I will contact the shipping company and I will provide you all the details you need in order to receive the package.
Thank you very much for your understanding and I'll wait for the confirmation of the payment.

PS: Please tell me exactly your whereabouts in England as I can guide you to the nearest Western Union agency in your area. Western Union accept cash or payment over the phone:

http://www.westernunion.co.uk/info/osMoney...sferOptions.asp

Looks sort of like a Nigerian scam to me.

Then all of the sudden, I receive this:

Dear vegardma,

My name is Ciara Jones from eBay's Customer Support and I am a member of eBay staff.

I know that you have been contacted by Mr. William Japcaru ( nobby309 ) regarding a second chance offer concerning the Item number 7994711340. For the moment, the location of the product is other that the one you knew, as it belongs to Mr. William Japcaru in Truro, Corwall UK where he has just moved in, and he develops a small business there. In this case, we approve the payment for this product using Western Union services. As soon as you will confirm the payment to Mr. William Japcaru, he will contact the shipping company and he will send you the product on the same day, communicating by email all the details you should know about the shipment. Once you have the package, you have three days to decide whether you want to be the owner of the product. If not, you will send the package back to Mr. William Japcaru, and he will also support the shipment.

Western Union is a sure payment method only when the transaction is made within our eBay website and not outside. In our case, Mr. William Japcaru has paid all the taxes for the shipping company and the insurance of the product, as well as the taxes due to eBay website for this transaction, which is about to be concluded. eBay approved your payment to Mr. William Japcaru by Western Union, so you do not have any reason for concern, especially because Mr. William Japcaru is not allowed and will not have the money until you will be in possession of the product and decide what to do with it. Western Union agency will inform you about the recent frauds and maybe you will sign a paper against that, which will not affect this transaction with Mr. William Japcaru.

As a conclusion, to honestly conclude this business, you should follow the rules established by us and both you and your money will be safe. Otherwise, you risk being ill reputed on our site and to loose the money, too. In the end we may say that if something wrong happens, we, eBay, will pay back the money. We thank you and wish you success.

Best wishes,
Ciara Jones
eBay International AG

I ask him what is going on (again) and receive this:

I must tell you that there is a large amount of money at stake for me too, but not enough to make a fool of you and make me commit a fraud for them. I have a good reputation on eBay and I do not want to risk loosing it, or to be removed from the website and to have troubles with the Police for this. I have a family and a good job and I do not need something like this. I`ve told you that the winning bidder make fun of me so let me know if you are willing to follow the terms frm the invoice eBay sent you or not.

regards,
william rubinhosco@yahoo.co.uk

A good reputaion on Ebay, where he's got 4 feedbacks, and one of them is duff..

What do you guys think??

anything that has western union mentioned anywhere is - IMO - a scam. If I get one of these, they are sent back and real money asked for instead...

Agreed. I was nearly caught out once buying a laptop. I would not buy anything off ebay where the seller wanted to be paid via Western Union.
I did lose a very small amount of money, but nowhere near what could have been lost.
