It's been a while since I've posted on here, but I knew this was the place to ask seeing as some of you guys are so dedicated to weight saving 😁

Firstly, does anyone make such a thing?

If not, has anyone made any at home for their mini?

Open to any ideas as I don't want to fit the std bulky items

Cheers

If you dont mind it removeable just use little tabs to locate it behind the hinge panel then just shut n lock...

but there not too much of a heavy item anyway? Unless everything else on the car is as light as it can be first i wouldnt worry about them too much

if you knock the pin out and replace with R clips then you can remove the whole boot *happy*

Oh, where's my display picture gone? bizarre!

Anyway, that's a good idea Dave...didn't fancy having bonnet pins on the bottom two corners of the bootlid as well as the top, and I wouldn't have to that way!

They sound interesting Chalkie, I can almost picture what you mean! However I feel like I'm picturing B&Q door hinges

Have you done that Brett? *happy*

I have see a few with the tabs that just locate.. can only remember lee billings genuine carbon fibre not so lightweight booger wrapped thing ma jiggy... have a search for that,

I have done similar to what brett has said but i knocked the pins out seperated them both the put the pins back.. and cut a slot in the top part to create a hook so it can still hinge down as normal but then lift off completely, that way no one can just take the pins off and do a runner with ya boot or the contents of ya boot...

Come to think of it i think the genuine carbon mini has tabs on the outside of the hinge panel.. but i meant tabs on the back of the boot that youd tuck on the inside of the hinge panel then shut the boot

No not me.

Mine are plain, just colour coded.

My door handles are lightened. Trimmed down a lot with some go faster holes and painted black.

Searched "lightweight booger wrapped thing ma jiggy" ...didn't produce any results *happy* I'll know his build though, I'll have a nosey now. I think I understand what you've done Dave, do you have a picture by any chance? The idea is purely to make it removable with yours and Brett's hinges then?

Ah I was having a nosey at your instagram earlier Jonny, in an attempt to see these holey hinges, I was disappointed haha. Lovely car though, fantastic attention to detail!

Trimmed the door handles, which part of them? The mounting face?

Off topic but still on topic kind of...... heavy door item, door lock mechanisms!!!! They weigh a bloody tonne! I don't like the idea of attaching them to such a nice light door either...any weight reduction ideas/options with these too?

Cheers

I've just taken lots of material off. They're so chunky in standard form. Powerfile job.

Same with the Latch brackets on the shell. All self explanatory when you get going.

I haven't got round to doing the innards of the mechanism. I like to get a spare set then swap over. Haven't bought a set yet.

Thanks for the kind comments.

The actual lock on the door? Its mainly plastic? Not much weight there.. the actual door handle on the other hand itself is heavy.. just a good shave like jonnys said about... that lee billings ones name on here is his reg i believe.. f415 dda if i remember correctly? N yeah i done it to my hinges purely because i was doing alot in my boot (cant remember what) and it was peeing me off having the boot stuck in my shins trying to balance over it head in the boot without putting my weight on it and snapping it off! (Also done it to be able to swap between my normal steel boot and single skin fg boot) The way i done it the slot cut in it was so far round it hinged down as normal but then a lil jiggle it could be removed n put to the side, again like jonny i only done it as i had a few spares that i didnt mind 'playin' with if i cocked it up
