HTC Phone - No Signal issues

I thought this was worth sharing. Over the last few weeks I've been really struggling with my phone (HTC One M8). It's just had no signal, or a very weak signal, when others on the same network have had no problems.

After a bit of googling, it seemed that it was not an isolated issue, but most of the fixes were turn it off and on again. Finally in desperation I did a full data reset. This amazingly seemed to work. But then about half an hour later (during which time I'd been putting all the apps and shit back on the phone) the signal disappeared. Bugger.

So full data reset again, and the signal came back. Was fine over night. But this morning after a getting all the Aps back on, signal disappeared. Arrrgggggg

Now, what was interesting, is that not only did the phone signal go, but also the Wi-Fi signal.

Some head scratching later, I found the problem. My new carbon fibre case was blocking the signal.

Anyone else had similar issues?

there was something that popped up on Facespace about it last week if I remember.

personally I've avoided all phone cases as I like my phone scratched to hell with broken screen and glass missing.....

I never use cases, and have never had this sort problem.

Surprised Carbon Fibre can stop a signal though - interesting! :)

It's CF on a plastic moulding that's aluminiumised on the inside.

CF is actually quite conductive

I find my wifi/reception a bit week recently but I've always had phone cases because of work so I don't think that's the issue with mine! Also have the HTC M8, first HTC I've regretted buying!

Been really happy with mine. It has a few problems, but they all do.

The camera is shocking compared to Carls LG! I've found the battery life on this exceptional, with reasonably heavy use it comes off charge at 6:30am and doesn't go back on until about 21:00-22:00 and even then the battery hasn't gone under 15%! I do have the brightness on the minimum setting which seems to help. Maybe I'll try taking my case off this weekend to see if it improves my reception. Mines more patchy, it comes and goes a lot. What network are you on?

I'm on O2. Camera does what I want. If I want a real photo I get something with a proper lens (i.e. a camera!)

I have seen this before on an iPhone 5. The case stopped the signal sounded similar CF and alloy. Until recently changing I've never used a case but my last phone was a bit battered at the end of the two years . I actually got a bumper case.

Anyway the phone world is shouting about the oneplus2 now! Although the pics make it look massive and thick.

Tradesmen and phones often don't get on well, ever since John recommended one I stick with an otter box defender now. big old thing but helpful to prevent damage when you knock nails in with it.

I once had a 'genuine' carbon fibre case, it was much heavier than it was quoted to be.......
