I'm in the interesting situation where the scuttle closing plate has completely disintegrated however the scuttle itself is fine, has anyone tried fitting a scuttle closing plate with the wing and scuttle in place?
Any advise would be gratefully received.

I said I'd do it, there's no need to remind me every 6 months!!

I've managed it in the past but only with a good scuttle; looking at yours, it still looks a bit crusty on the lip.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Looking at it on the pc, the photo is a great deal clearer. There looks to me a fair bit of corrosion on the inner wing as well. I'd remove the wing and a panel and do it properly. I'd expect the scuttle id probably going to need a degree of repair

Yeah gave the top of the wing below the scuttle a bash and a little hole appeared so I think it's going to be wing off and have a proper look at what is going on in there, I know the inner wing needs replacing as a lot of it came off with the A panel, and there's a pretty sizeable hole at the bottom of it.

If it's anything like mine, you'll find even more grot once you remove the panels to get access to the closing panel! A light tidy up turned into a full nut and bolt resto!

So as a continuation to this I took the wing off to revile this:

And it looks like I'm going to have a similar issue on the passenger side though not as bad:
