Went to petrol station today, got in car to start the engine...... Smoke everywhere, SHIT then flames came pooring out my bonnet. The bloke came out to switch the pumps off but couldn't find the extinwisher. By the time he found it it had stoped burnning, but he coverd it with foam anyway.

What happned was my oil pressure guage pipe moved over to the turbo exhast elbow somehow and melted as I was filling up. Then when I started it up oil must have gone all over the maifold, turbo and downpipe and then caught fire.

I was lucky really coz the only damage was the dump valve vacume T piece and a couple of burnt fuel lines. Could have been a lot worse i think. Have to fix it now for RR on fri.

So lesson to all, keep oil and fuel pipes away from anything hot, DOH!

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

I know plenty of people who've done that, me included.

Never got one to set on fire, put it's amazing how much oil comes out.

I wasn't braided no. Its just a plastic pipe going to the oil presure guage.

Get the braided line from mini spares (assuming you have a smiths gauge). You were lucky - This time! LOL!!

Mine is a mocal guage, don't know if it will fit. I just got another plastic one for now and put it round the front of the engine away from anything hot. All running again now ready for the rollers.

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

Wouldnt easiest option be to keep plastic lines away from anything hot ?

Those damn braided lines will eat through anything if they are allowed to rub against them.
I never ran an oil pressure guage in my car, as it would only have made me paranoid lol.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
