Ok,

Looking to change the primary gear when I put my engine back together.
The primary gear I am replacing has a sort of metal ring around it where it butts up to the crank oil seal.

What is it and does it matter that it isn't on my replacement primary?

That primary gear looks odd anyway. Was there an early 1275 primary gear?

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Maybe it's been munching at something and that's why the ring is missing.

One is 29 tooth the other is 30 tooth eco primary, both A+

Edit, my bad

The eco gearset has a double groove. It looks line the primary gear only had a single groove to match the input gear. The standard primary gear had no groove.

In the box yes, not the drop gears.

Single groove is standard 29tooth
