I'm planning on taking the plunge and investing in some nice split 10's, but to see how the car behaves first it is currently on some borrowed mb splits with 3.5 inch wide inners and 3.5 outers which suit the car well, so thinking this would be a good combination.

Maybe just get your car corner weighted and the suspension setup for the wheels etc... On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Once i got mine to track straight corner weights made the biggest improvement on torque steer

I have 6 3/4 and quite enjoyed the torque steer, you never feel more alive than when you feel like you might crash.

...also be sure the pre tension on the differential bearings is set properly with the right amount of shim thickness.

Running an ATB, with about 1 thou preload. pretty sure they just need enough to nip the diff bearing up. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:
