Hi all... took the mini out yesterday for the first time properly in about 4 months and since then its lost quite a bit more weight and i can feel it BUT when hard accellerating its as if the engine 'gets up n goes' much quicker than it used to because its not dragging much weight so revs faster but the clutch cant keep up? Now it drives fine otherwise and no problems whatsoever on mild/lairy driving so im only assuming clutch.. i wouldnt associate it with cars ive had in the past with worn clutches cos they havent been FAST so just 'mooooo'd' as i call it... so cant really compare, its a heavy duty pressure plate with 190mm performance clutch plate with roughly 6000/7000 miles on?

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

I've found in the past that the diaphragms appear to lose clamping force with age.
You may find that replacing the cover may fix it?

So whats the best one to go for?

And silly question but can clutch slip cause damage to anything else like crank tail?

If the cars lighter the clutch will be having an easier time of it really.

Verto john,

And yes slater totally agree but i was thinking because its not bogging down waiting to pull its weight and gathering momentum its revving quicker cos its not waiting to pull its arse.. does that make sense out of my head? Haha

Oil on the friction plate.......... but if youve upped the boost, you might need an rts

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Lightening the car will ease the load on the clutch so that should not be the issue unless your making more power (genuine carbone doesnt count)
Clutch slip will usually show first in the high gears

A good test is to give it stick in 4th gear on a straight

Oil contamination or weakening cover as said seems to be the first place to start looking

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

Hmmm... interesting... 4th is fine!!! I was thinking maybe cos its not such an instant acceleration like it is in 2nd and then 3rd.. 2nd gear is worst.. i find that if im giving it some in second and it has this problem i back off throttle then reapply.. then its much better..

Could contamination be coming from the breather system getting through?

and just for peace of mind, can this 'slipping' cause damage elsewhere?

Top gear, 16 bags of sand and a wind brake strapped to the roof. At least a mile long 1:10 hill also helps *happy*
