probably for infor for the dvla for an engine change?

if so the plate is often lost when the blocks skimmed, a lot of rebuilders stamp theyr name and a number eg MED 1293 456.

you can just make somthing up and stamp it on and if they ask say its a rebuilt engine.

aparently

I just took the small aluminium plate off the engine that had originally been in the car so the number remained the same (both were 1275 engines as I had changed from 998 to 1275 decades ago back when DVLA were less fussy).

I can see the issue on modern engines where everything is stamped or engraved but on the A series it's just an easily removed plate.

I can't see it being an issue in this case unless the same number shows up against two different registrations.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

I don't imagine the DVLA would check this. I had the same engine number on my Jet Black and Clubby Estate for a long time before I realised.

Put an number of an old 850 on it

you can do anything if you set your mind to it...
i rather blow it up winning than keep it together losing.

Mine is a late bloke with the number engraved so the skim removed all traces. Stamp it up with whatever you want, but i dont like the idea of using a number from an engine you don't own, leaving yourself open to VOSA's pedantry, not that its likely to happen, but im happen that it wont ever be a problem. I like John's suggestion lol.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
