I'm in the process of rebuilding my car and feeling like I didn't make this connection correctly. When I press on the brake the box clearly flexes away from the dash rail.

It really seems like the pedal box and steering drop should mate up but they didn't fit together. Is that because they are from different cars? One was RHD and the other was LHD but I though they can interchange. Or maybe I'm missing a plate.

Anyone notice anything wrong? Or anything I can do to fix it?

^^^

Like he says, but I think it's actually two pieces missing, very strange shaped bits of metal and, IIRC some large washers.

I'll see if I can do some photos tommorow.

I don't think LHD vs RHD is the issue, it's missing pieces.

This is the only picture I seem to be able to find online but they have a little yellow tag and as mentioned a large flat washer too!

I hope this helps! 👍🏼

I thought that little yellow tag rectangular washer thing clamps the pedal box between the dash rail and the bolt and then the large washer takes up the gap between the rail and the steering bracket. Could be wrong though.

There's a sort of U shaped bracket missing

So that's where the yellow tag goes! I think I still have that in the bin of parts or I might even have it already installed there in the wrong location.

Actually, I think it does, I think the funny shaped yellow bit is No.7 in the diagram but the diagram doesn't make it's strange shape that clear.
And the second bit I refered to is No.3 in the diagram and goes on the top surface of the dashrail.

Photos as promised, not the actual car, too hard to get at, but from a complete assembly I removed from an early 80's car.

Sorry about the quality, couldn't get the camera to focus properly.

Note that this setup had another large washer under the yellow plate (presumably to spread the load acrosss the yellow plate a bit better) and double washers the other end to get the height spacing right.

Also note the top plate is tapered. This is to match the dash rail as it isn't parallel to the pedal box.

On a LHD, the taper would presumably be the opposite way to my photo.

EDIT - typo

Sweet! Went around and found that yellow tag and it worked like a champ! Brake pedal feels much better.

Thanks all for the quick help!
