Hi all,

I have been studying the vizard bible for some time now trying to figure out camshaft choice for my car...going on the information I have gathered a Kent 266 cam is perfect for what I'm after....I know that the mg metro cam is nearly the same profile but I was a little bit shocked to learn that the twin ring cam from an 1100 gas exactly that same lift as a mg metro cam, part number on this cam is the aea630 off the top of my head...can somebody confirm this for me? If it is the same then I do have a couple of these sat in my workshop.

Thanks in advance
Paul

I believe the MG metro cam is a cross of the old 731 ST cam for the exhaust and the 'cooper' AEA 630 cam for the inlet.

If you do use one you probably want one with 1/2 lobes. I dont think they all have the wider lobes.

This is a 998 cooper and would be pretty good for a 998 build. it's easy to put too much cam in. Spend the money on a head and suitable lcb w. exhaust a hif 44 and dyno time.

Pretty much all BL cams are short on lift and most of them have pretty much the same lift as well.
Lift and duration are only a small part of the equation. You can make ten, say 266 deg x .280 lift cams that are all substantially different and will perform differently as well.

More modern cams would tend towards less duration w. higher lift and more agressive ramps.

If you have a good condition cam you have it reground for not too much money. But i would stick in the cam you have if it is in good nick and have a set of old followers reground (keith calver can do that)
