As Carl is busy and theres an abundance of his wheels on here.

I need a new set of wheels following the change in MSA regs so will probably get what I really want and get a set of 3 piece split 10's.

What is the maximum width inner rim that can be used with a spaced minifin type rear drum, without any additonal spacing while still providing adequate clearance between the radius arm? I would imagine 3.5" but wanted to check.

Thanks

I'm sure mine is 3.5" inner rim and I have a spacer with the minifin drum, or it fouls on the damper.

I'll double check at the weekend for you though...

My build thread..

What inner are you going to use?

It will vary depending on those.

Also are you running coilovers?

I've got a 4" inner and 2.5" outer in the 13s. There is maybe the possibility to get a 4.5" inner on the car, but you may need to use a shim/ spacer, and you would have to be careful with the tyre profile, as its usually the tyre that rubs the radius arm not the rim.

The sportspack rims would give about 5mm clearance with the Yokohama A539 tyre, to the radius arms without the use of any shims, but with the standard spaced rear drum.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Wheel centres would be the "conventional" ones.

Coilover clearance can be delt with later on, with inginuity and swearing.

I borrowed a set of friends MB racing splits, that were 6 inches wide. The clearance between the rim and radius arm and tyre and radius arm was pretty consistant as it follows the curve of the tyre.

The tyre regs changed for the roadoing classes this year for hillclimbs/springts as the EU has outlawed a load of of the tyres for road use. Therefore to partake in the roadgoing classes you need some tyres that comply, otherwise your in the race classes with the additional regulation that brings.

Yes, the tyre ruling is going to make road class records pretty tough to get anywhere near I imagine. Also pretty grim if you recently bought a fresh set of semi slicks etc.

Similar story in mod prod with the new helmet, hans and harness I now need to purchase....

Be interesting to see, The record holder in my class is able to use the same yoko's as before, i've opted for Avon ACB10 over the A048R's that i would have got, should stick like shit to a blanket.

PS, bit shit about having to fork out for new gear though. I would have liked to have seen a longer changeover period, but everyone is in the same boat.
