what an idiot i am.

well after recovering from my cut knuckle i have now changed my turbo head for my standard one so i can tes for leaks in the number 2 chamber using parrafine as i keep getting water in there. but after inspection using a torch and a straight edge i thnik she neeeds a skim.

any way fitted the starnard head on with my 1.5 rockers she was all carnked down and then thats when i relised what a twat i was.

the starndard head has got standard 1275 springs on on the buggers get spring crush so how on earth do i over come this i thought.

asi only needed the head on for a few runs to work whilst the other gets skimmed so this is what i done.

turned the engine over by hand so each valve was fully down then adjusted the tappet until i got 10 thou between the coils, the only problem being you end with a gap at the top of some 38 thou.

ohhhhhhhh

she runs ok just sounds like a singer sowing machine on after burner but im sure she will be ok for a couple of days.

so a big lesson learnt there then i think.

Why not use STD rockers for a few days? or is that a stupid question.

10 thou seems to tight i would say 60 thou would be a minimum figure

simple realey i needed the car today and forgot myself after i put the rockers on and i didnt have another headgasget to use or could get one any were

certainly not an ideal situation, i needed to get to work for over time today and tomoz.

which certainly outways the risk but not by much but enough.

i have standard set to go on if needed but as said not another head gasket to use.

i should be able to get away with out using the car ubtil friday when i can get the other head bak on, well thats the plan anyway.

i have read somewere that 10 thou is the minmum clearance when hot for a standard spring but that is not ideal but having said that i cant remebr were ive seen it.

OK why do you need to change the head gasket when fitting different rocker.. or am i missing something.

you dont really. well, of course you should, but i have got away with it on more than one occasion. shouldnt really be a problem i fthe gasket has been changed recently... just crack everything off like you gonna retorque it, then change the rockers and torque back down!!

yes you can but on a 1380 not adviseable especialy a turbo.

i have done it in the past but didnt last long at all.

in theory you could do a pillar at a time then slide in the shaft but it all ways nips up and you cant budge it.

LOL i can see that being easy to do LOL

I've nearly done it to when you pick a head up just for a quick run around

I now have a tool if you need it to change over your springs with out taking head off!
