Hi

I've just fitted a kad gear linkage. I can adjust it to select 1st and 3rd, but cannot get it into 2nd 4th or reverse.

Is it possible to get the selector rod at the gearbox end 180 degrees out? As in where the roll pin goes?

Thanks
Josh

Make sure the box end locking nut is tight on the rod.

Undo the gear stick end locking nut.

Put a spanner on the rod and use that to do the side to side movement and the gear stick to select each gear, forward and back.

That should tell you if you can get all the gears.

It's pretty hard to get it spot on so it doesn't get stuck trying to go into some gears and takes a bit of time. You just need to know when to tighten the nut up. There's no easy way other than persistence and practice.

I also find if you put the box in neutral then undo both locking nuts, turn the bar so the stick is right in the centre of the housing. Not to far forward or back. That's a good place to start before tightening the box end lock nut.

Cheers jonny. I'll have another go next time I'm down there. It's pretty much what I was doing anyway.

I did manage to get 2nd and 4th but then couldn't get 1st and 3rd. Then I adjusted it again and got 1st and 3rd but it falls out of 2nd and 4th and reverse!
Very annoying! Should it be so sensitive. Like half a turn at a time kind of adjusting?

If you have got the gears its just you setting it up wrong. Takes time and patience and just thinking about how it works. Its hard to explain on here!

Do as i said above, set it in neutral so the gear stick is dead in the centre front to rear.

Tighten the box end.

Put in second gear using a spanner on the rod. Put the gear leaver where it would be in 2nd and tighten the lock nut ensuring the rod does not turn.

See if you can get all the gears, if you can't you need to undo the lock nut, turn the rod a smidge, nip it up and try and get all the gears again.

You'll soon figure out what you are doing wrong just doing the above. Which way the rod needs to be.

With mine its the smallest of movement to get it spot on so that it goes nicely into third rather than getting caught between 3rd/reverse.

I see exactly what your saying jonny. I've been doing both ends up then trying. Undoing, then re adjusting etc etc. Doing my nut in especially with a hangover lol.

When doing mine mate I find setting it up in 2nd best,

So set the box in 2nd then turn it so the stick is in place of 2nd.

Remember the stick don't come back as far as normal.

It just takes time, if it's not right it will be a pig to get gears with.

Right. I had another go at sorting this tonight.
Ive got it screwed into the gearbox end as far as it'll go and it's still not in the right place for neutral. It's as if the rod is too long.
I've tilted the engine forward at the top if that makes sense to allow room for the turbo. But I think this has made the gearbox closer to the bulkhead.
I'm sure I've read on here thst someone had tge same issue and had to cut the rod down at one end!?
I may have to do this, but I've run out of thread as well!

Oh the joys!

Any ideas lads?

Mines tilted forward and I have no problems. Got loads of adjustment on the rod still.

Don't really want to mave it back anymore if I'm honest. It's in the right place.
I'll get a few pics up at the weekend.

Right. I've been messing about with this again and I've found the the spring thst goes in the shifter mechanism won't allow me to put the stick in the neutral position. It won't allow me the pull it into 2nd 4th or revers!
Now I might have to shorten the spring!?
Anyone come across this before?

In fact does the spring fit inside the shifter box or outside it?

Hi mate,

Are you chatting about the spring and ball that sits behind, the drive flange?

As the linkage is a pain but not that bad tbh, as if I am honest my wife has set mine up last two times,

Have you got the instructions for the linkage?

Simon.

I've sorted this now!!

There's a spring in the kit that gives it a modern feel when in neutral if thst makes sense.
I basically like a complete plonker fitted it inside the mechanism. Meaning I couldn't pull the stick far enough back! Took it to bits and put it on the out side of the mechanism and it's better but I was running out of adjustment.
I then undone the mechanism from the mounts and pulled it back. Then wound the rod further In so I could get full adjustment. I had all the adjustment up one end so to speak. Hard to explain in text but I've done it! Got all gears every time. Took 2 mins once I put the spring in the right place!!!! What a wally lol.

I bought the kit about 3 years ago just never fitted lol. Like most of the stuff I have it was bought years ago haha.
I'm just relieved it's not a problem with my box!

That's odd.

I bought it at least 3/4 years ago.

I'll take a pic of it next time I'm down the barn.
It goes where the uj goes into the shifter mechanism. It goes over the rod.
It basically throws the stick back into the centre of the mechanism when in neutral.

No sprocket it's just a spring that fits over the uj at the mechanism end in the car.
I got it directly from KAD.
