Why is my new straight cut gears only noisy in 1 2 3rd gears but fourth is as quite as helical gears?

Fourth is not a gear. It simply locks the input shaft to the output shaft.

no as like what colin said 4th is not a gear as such,

its 1:1 ratio ie the input shaft and output shaft are connected,

no power is transmitted through gears, no straight cut whine ( from the gear set )
you would still get it from the drops if there straight cut though

This is one reason i stuck with the helical drop gears and final drive. Nice and quiet when you slip it into forth, cruising along at 30mph *smiley*

This is one reason i wish mine wasnt like this!! Haha.. i love the noise! But in all honesty quiet in fourth is awesome when doing lots of miles! (Scares ya when youve been cruising on motorway for miles n miles and then drop down to 3rd for a roundabout or something and tschh chhh chhhhh... sc *happy* )
