Hi guys,

I suppose a somewhat successful bank holiday weekend on the mini,

I managed to get it Started, after a full engine rebuild, however I'm aware that I'm supposed to run the car at 2k Rpm for 20mins to knock the cam in, it must of been running at this for 3-5 mins before I notice oil pouring out of the oil gallery plug by the timing case, (just behind the alternator tensioner).

Now my first question is will I be able to replace this plug institue?

And also, I'm worried by stopping and starting the engine without knocking the cam in I'm going to be doing some damage, especially as the fuelling and timing aren't set up?

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers, Oli

Sort the leak out, then as soon as you start it back up, straight up to 2500 rpm and give it the full 20min.

So the engines now out of the car, and ill be doing the gallery plug...

however i fitted a MiniSpares GLP110MS - Turbo Oil Pump. now ive read the thread with the issues people have been having with this pump, and im wondering if i should change it out while the engines on the bench?

when i first tried to get oil pressure it took about 30secs and went up to 100lb on the gauge, all the way round, before coming back abit to 70ish.

do you think i would experienced a poorer reading or shall i whip it out for piece of mind?

its a 1293 na engine, so will standard pump be ok if i should change it, or would you recommend the much more expensive swiftune pump etc?

cheers again!

personally, with the engine out, I'd check the pump for peace of mind.

as for replacement, I'm not familiar with your spec of engine but a standard pump may be suitable. check the pump first through and see if it is actually an issue

i think your probably right,

its a 1293, worked crank and rods, 286 cam, twin hs4 etc, nothing too mad haha.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Those swiftune pumps are expensive. But worth every penny

Swifty one is great for peace of mind but sounds like you'd be fine on a standard pump.

I would definitely change it now.

due to the fact i want to get the engine back in this weekend, ive just bought the pump on the off chance, ive yet to strip it down, but time will tell, i dont really want any more hold ups so just took the hit on buying it,

i will update though whether or not the pump is indeed faulty

My pump on removal,

I've not got any engineers blue, however it measured 41mm between the oil ways on the pump

New pump measures 45mm across the centre, that should do the trick!?
