A few hours this morning spent trying to save the original front end off the car, it's full of filler, fibreglass resin without enough hardener and it's been very bodged. So I'm trying to save it because I want the original front end on the car, here are a few before and after pics. I have a lot of fibreglassing to do on it, a lot of moulds to make but it will get there eventually.

As for the car it's self, I'm waiting on the last bit of stone chip for the rear wheel wells and I'm filling the holes where the master cylinders once were and other random holes that are on the front bulkhead.

After the stone chip is applied and dried the subframes are ready to go on👍🏻

Another picture here from the other day when I was grinding the bulkhead to make it smooth I found a crack and started digging and found that there was about an half an inch of fibreglass over the top of the original bulkhead so I got a chisel and hammer (as you can see) and it came off easily because whoever glassed it did it over paint so it wasn't strong at all.

Getting there

Oh😂

Yeah no idea what they had planned to cover up, the bulkhead is perfect underneath. Luck they did such a bad job to be honest, made it a lot easier to remove lol

Not that I know of mate.

I've only seen two minus' and they've both had a smooth bulkhead. But you could be right Dave

Sort of resembling something like a minus.

Atleast it's something to show for the efforts of this month. Still a lot more to sort before the cage.

Still waiting on the rollcage.

Decided I wanted it sitting a lot lower at the back (only need to concentrate on the back because only the back has coliovers at the moment) so I decided to make the coilover mounts higher and cut the arches to suit.

As the pictures show I found it hard to reach the top coilover mounts so I decided to cut the rear shelf out to make it easier and it weighed a lot more than I thought due to someone doing some s**t glassing underneath it. All in all it weighed over 2.5kg and the replacement should be well under 1kg.

Thinking of putting either a thin layer of glass or carbon there instead.

Not really sure how low to go but as the coilovers are adjustable I don't have to make it perfect yet.

I've also been ordering a lot of hoses, fittings, engine bits ready for the engine build, I'm a long way off fitting the engine but I've ordered what I need so It's all ready for when I need it. Once I start mocking up to get the hose lengths I'll take some pictures of the engine.

Cheers
JB

As the body is progressing well, and rollcage material ordered I thought I'd start doing some smaller jobs for rainy days, like yesterday.

First thing I did was modify my FPR for some JIC fittings.

Also received a nice DSN order and Demon Tweeks order which I'll show you soon👍🏻

Still waiting on the rollcage so I booked today off to do bodywork then it was pouring with rain:/ so i decided to change my final drive ratio from 3.44 to 3.2, so far I've changed the crown wheel, just offered the socket for the pinion nut, going to be replaced with a ti one.

I also changed my front brake bolts to titanium and am making some ti bolts for the rad rear disk setup at work at the moment.

Hopefully some bits will be coming together soon for a proper update:)

Cheers

Having some trouble lock the box into 1st and 4th so I can undo the pinion nut.

Going off a post on the mini forum I'm trying to move the gear number 1 to the left and it won't budge. I don't want to force it. I've de selected the selector shaft from the forks. So I can select gears freely.

Any advice?

Cheers
JB

You don't mention if it will only go into one gear at a time or won't go into that gear at all.. Sometimes it takes a fair bit of force to pop it into gear. So long as you have the selector shaft and it's sleeve disengaged properly it should go into both.

Hi slater, I managed to move gear 2 from the photo but not gear 1. I have been doing some more research and managed to find somewhere that shows me to lock it into reverse and 1st which locks it. I haven't changed the pinion yet as I haven't got the titanium nut to replace it yet. But it's now locked ready to be changed👍🏻

Small update,

I'm starting to build parts up slowly, as I mentioned earlier the engine build will start soon. But for now I am building up little bits I'm happy with, like this for example...

I've made some carbon pedals for it and some titanium bits which I'll show very soon once they are on.

Thanks
Jack
