I'm off for the rollers on Friday and have to change to 1,5 rockers first.

As I've never done this without removing the head before, is there anything I should look out for apart from draining the water?

Has anyone done this successfully previously?

I cannot understand why it shouldn't work though.

Only problem might be head gasket retorquing after the swap as I'm straight for the rollers.

Anyone?

Common - this is as bad as re using a head gasket.

Emergancy repair I can understand - but it only takes a couple of hours to pop the head on and off.

I have done this before on a mates car, he didn't want to lift the head but wanted to take off a set of 1.5 rockers before he sold it.

It did work, but I personally I would always lift the head and change the gasket if possible.

Like Tom - I've done it before - on a nat-asp motor. Don't even think I drained the coolant...

The way I did it was to slacken the adjusters right off on the 1.25's and the 1.5's. Hopefully this will relieve most of the compression in the valve springs, avoiding the head wanting to lift...

Ummm... Do you think there's enough metal in the head to recess the nuts and put the below the rocker posts?? I know this would mean having threaded studs through the rockers and another nut on top but would cure the head gasket changing issue.

Just a thought

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.

for= if you really havent got the time to take the head off befor friday then id just do the rockers then replace gasket at next avaiable time.

against= should you do the rockers without taking head off then your head gasket blows on the rollers then its a big waste of rolling road money.

not much help really but basically i rekon its a bit of a gamble especially if your gonna be running biggish boost *smiley*

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I just swapped. I'll get back on how it went :)

I'll bring another head gasket to the rollers just in case!
