Just bought a car needing tax and on the V5 the taxation class says disabled. The previous owners must've had an exemption certificate as the last tax disc has NIL written on it.

Checked the DVLA site and it's not clear (or I've not found the relevant bit) if we need to change the taxation class on the V5 before taxing the car again.

I know a class change has to be done at a VRO, but I was wondering if we just write PLG on the form (V10?) and take it to the post office.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I have discussed this with someone at work who has had the exact same thing.
He bought a car which had been on Motability and as such was in a disabled classification.
He had to go to a Tax Office in order to get the vehicle re-classified as PLG.
It can't be done at a Post Office.
Not sure where the nearest Tax Office to us would be, Sheffield I think.
Pain in the ar$e job really.
Sorry about that.

Yup

Like life isn't complicated enough without having to spend a morning phoning petrol stations and checking tanker deliveries. Managed to get fuel eventually yesterday but not in enough time to go to work - shame :)

Ho ho ho ho

I thought, shall I stick to my principles and not fill up, as if everyone did that there would be no problem.

Then I thought arse to it, if you can't beat them join them, so I filled my 306 derv and 205 GTi both up to full, and also my track day jerry cans.....

I think I have about 900 miles range......should do for a bit!
