I am running a SPI tank on the standard 1000cc carb engine after my turbo engine died on me there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

You'd be easier to plumb in the feed and return and use the turbo fuel regulator, set at 4psi for the SU and with the boost reference port left open to atmosphere.

As Tom says, if you don't put a regulator with a return in, the pump will be trying to maintain flow against a dead end.

Indeed I am using the turbo regulator.

, i was gonna run two 8mm fuel lines in but only connect one of them as i am not planning on turboing just yet , i believe that an mpi pump is around 3bar ,which is 42 psi , now i think that a std carb operates at around 4psi ? i have a filter king with a regulator on that i can reduce it down . so basically would fitting an mpi tank and using a regulator to lower the pressure down be acceptable or would it cause issues cheers
