having watched the market over the past few years, there has certainly been a fair bit of increase in the general value of any mini. Now I know you can ask all the money in the world but I do think £15 for a cooper S resto project without its correct engine is taking it too far; I of course could be wrong!

Swansea boyo!

Are they even worth 30-40k restored?! Maybe completely original but there's a lot of parts you'd have fun sourcing trying to get it back to that!

They don't die, they just get faster!

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

Its worth what someone. Will pay? If they are lousy with money and a mini nut, then no problem!

I had this debate on the mk1 forum the other day,

i think the prices of minis now are obscene,

great for us that own earlier or rare cars etc.... but for the general enthusiast, its out of our reach.

Now ive finished my current project which is modified and tuned etc, id love to do a mk1 back to factory spec, however the prices on the projects are too much for me.

I am very thankful for buying loads of minis when i was a teenager for peanuts because if i hadnt and i wanted a mini now i dont think id justify spending the money they are now...

minis are still very affordable, and you can have a mini that will out perform a mk1 S for less than a third of that money

but that isnt why people want those
its like art, your money is safer in classic cars and their paperwork than in the bank

that looks like a very easy project and alot of previous history
sure sourcing an engine will be tricky but its just appreciating in value the longer you take

when you think a new golf costs £20k it suddenly doesnt look that bad

I think most things have shot up in price. We purchased a new Skoda Fabia VRS in 04 £10k,same car in 2014 when we thought about buying another, £17k.

I drove past the ford garage last week and saw what looked like a Boggo focus for £19k whilst I was at the lights.....

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

An early estate ripe for restoration sold for around £9k earlier this week at auction. Its great for those that already have a mini but its going to become harder to get into as time goes on and will possibly become an elite club as opposed to the budget classic we all grew up with

That's my point
The "elite" collectable club is mk1,mk2 coopers, pickups, cabriolet's, vans, countrymans, very late mpi's etc.
but mini's from 76-95 you can still get good examples for 1500/2500 or if you know what your doing under £1000
Just don't expect a minter for £50 anymore!
Saying that the normal ones will still creep up in value

what i don't get though is how is a car that is rotten as a pear, missing loads of parts, with no mot.... worth £2000 or more.... and that's the way i see it, a car like that is unfortunately worth scrap, whether its salvageable or not .

I suppose the rise in classic car values is probably related to the low interest rates. In days gone by, cash in the bank was making money so savings (if you had a little) were left in the bank for a rainy day. I think people are taking the view that they can have the same money in a classic and ultimately get it back after some fun, or indeed see more growth in the 'investment' over a few years due to the increased values.
