Ok folks, I bought a job lot of bits the other day, in amongst the pile was a new (wrapped) aldon 100ay distributor, but more importantly, what appears to be a performance head.

It's a 12G940 casting with 12G1805 stamped in behind the thermostat housing, along with a large "S" it has 11 stud holes so with the above I am guessing it started life as a cooper S head.

On the other end of the head is stamped "L 21.5" and H.E.D.S ?

I have measured the block and checked the volumes and found the following

Inlet valve dia: 36mm
Ex valve dia: 30mm
Combustion chamber: 15cc

Inlet chambers: 110cc

End exhaust chambers: 60cc
Centre exhaust chamber:87.5cc

Head thickness is 68mm

Is it a bog standard or have I scored ?

Large valves, nicely finished chamber -- I,d be pleased if I had it.

Definately not standard. It's also had a decent chunk skimmed off it. May be some use to someone, but 15cc chambers are extremely small. How accurately did you measure this ?

The 21.5 stamped should be the chamber size, if it really is 15cc it's been skimmed a shit tonne and not much use for anything other than nicking the valves from and using as a door stop I'd imagine.

Used a syringe and filled the chamber was the method... Need to go and check again now !

Scratch my last I managed 20cc with a kiddies neurofen syringe *happy* could have got maybe a spot more in, head on a level bench and the chamber filled so the miniscus just level with the deck.

Spark plug blocked off with blue tac to the end of the threads.

Chamber size sounds a lot more sensible now ! Lol
As Joe said, late Cooper S head when they downsized the ex valve from 31mm.

Cheers, so a late cooper S head which has had some larger valves and some port work done ?

Still no idea who or what the H.E.D.S is though, the work looks too tidy for a billybob in his garage (unless Benross was cutting heads way back when) :)
