Just wondering how you guys strenghen your bulkheads after fitting the turbo box, as you are cutting through the strongest part of the car??? Minis seem to crumple quite badly anyway in mild stacks, add to that more power and a chopped bulkhead, chances for engine on lap seem high??? Just wouldn't want to see anyone get hurt, thats all.

Its only a bit of metal. If it blows it blows!

'Engine on lap' seems unlikely IMO.

I really don't know why folks are so concerned about it TBH. The bulkhead on the 1999 mini was (if we're honest) designed in the late 50's long before advances in crash zones / crumple protection. Cutting a hole out, weakens it greatly for sure. But SEAM welding a shallow box back in goes almost all the way to recovering the strength.

If you're worried, buy a MINI! Or build a cage like Jims (if you're going to plagiarise, make sure you choose the best) *wink*

cheers guys, it did take a few months to sort out, it took almost as much time to prep the shell prior to putting in the cage as it did too put the cage in. The efforts paid off, as with all that tube, the car is still only 569 kg's
My gog friend Endaf Owens put the cage in, I helped where I could, but that was not a great deal. If you need a cage, oe any other fabrication, visit www.owensfabrication.com

There is another mini on turbo minis which is the sister car to mine, I'm suprised pics are not online yet. Come on mate, show us the pics *wink*
