Hi
Got a question about intake temperature
At the moment i got a sensor at intake of intercooler(cossie cooler)
And a sensor at the plenum
What temps should i look for running the car on track at 12 psi boost?

what turbo?

your probably looking at 90 odd degrees going into the intercooler, and somthing like 40 odd degrees coming out of it. ball park...

might see a few degrees lower then.

also the emp sensors take a while to stabilize so it normally is an approxiate reading, for somthing more accurate you really need an ECU type IAT sensor or a thermocouple

I got a temperature gauge off ebay but it goes blank as soon as I turn the engine on. Very annoying. Think it has a lose conection inside it.
When I've got it to work it's been about 35°c after a burst of full throttle. Running 8psi. It's not a cossie cooler though.

This is what I got. It would be perfect if the one I got wasn't faulty!! Hopefully they'll replace it!

I want to take note of the air temp vs position of the air filter. At the moment mine is at the back of the engine bay. Ive been toying with the idea of getting it to the front in some fresher air!
With the air inlet temp gauge it would be possible to see if theres any gain/no gain.

I have a similar display that also goes blank at times, and it took some tracking down as to exactly when it happens. I initially got around it by putting an inline switch in the power supply which allowed me to power cycle it and get the display back, without having to turn the ignition off. I've finally noticed that it always goes blank after I've turned the lights off or flashed the headlamps, and I suspect there is a spike on my choice of ground that kills the LCD display. I haven't had chance to check the theory yet by putting a diode in the circuit to ground, but I suspect it will work. Have you tried cycling the power to the display after you have started the engine, as you might have a similar problem to me?

I haven't tried that. But it seems to work if I wiggle the earth and live wires. Very annoying. The guy hasn't responded to me yet either.

I could try a different earth I suppose. Or fit a switch as you say. But I'd rather nit have to faff about with a switch if I can help it.

At the end of the 1/4 mile I see 90C into the cooler and 40C out, GT1752 at 18 psi

'Where does the engine go?'

What temps do you start to see power loss ?

Single dimension question to a multi dimensional problem.

Power production is proportional to the mass of air that you can fill the cylinder with. Therefore power production at 40 deg IAT will be lower than 30 deg IAT due to a lower density air charge in the cylinder.

90 deg in and 40 deg out is pretty typical. You'll do well to better that.

What you need to make sure of is that you've not got a massive pressure drop across the IC to achieve it.

Do you think there's much gain to have the air filter right up front behind the grille in fresh air? As opposed to at the back of the engine bay?

it'll help, but failing that a duct toward the filter or proping the back of the bonnet up will get you pretty much there.

somthing like a 20 degree increase at the filter will mean around 10 degrees increase out of the cooler,

you can plug figures into this to get an idea of stuff.

sounds fair, track time is pretty full on so uif its going to creep up it will be there or on the rollers.

what intercooler is it? you might be able to knock a few degrees off by getting cold air to the turbo inlet? given that it was 26 ambient you might be seeing 30+ into the turbo,

Is it ducted at all, any airflow coming in the front of the car will try to take the easiest route which is around the intercooler. If you can fill in any gaps then the air has to flow through the cooler, makes a good difference.

50 degrees at full chat isn't bad in the high ambients. Its knocked 50 degrees off it or there abouts.

As Tom said, duct it so it gets all the air it can, or, fit a bigger one.

the cozzy cooler tends to sit lust behind the bonnet so dosent get a lot of flow (Assuming this isnt a clubby), and still works well despite this,

Ive seen a lot of cars with bonnet holes to get some air in there,

Air needs to get out aswell.

It's a problem I have with my single seater. Air can get to the IC and rad, but the exit route is a bit crap. Vents on the top of the side pods is my next plan.
