My hif44 turbo carb is playing up. Fuel is just passing through the float chamber. Changed the float valve and seat 3 times, changed the float. Still no joy. Manually filled with funnel and pipe and it still fountains out of the jet.
Have tried transferring all of the float chamber components (float, adjustment assembly, jet assembly, float needle assembly) and it all works in a spare non turbo hif44. So it must be something else. I'm really stumped.

It shouldnt be that hard to diagnose.

Open carb up, turn upside down, blow into fuel inlet. It should be sealed. Lift float....it should allow air in.

If it doesnt do this...look for what is wrong. There really cant be too many things. Fuel only goes in one place, gets sealed by one valve

Thanks for the reply. Read an article on here last night and transpires it was the gasket between carb and plenum. The gasket didn't have the hole to pressurise the float chamber.

i was reading this for ages last night thinking, that makes no sense, it must be the float valve.... but then the penny dropped.

when the chamber was filling the air had knowhere to go so the only escape was the jet, so the air pocket ramained and the float never rose to cut off the fuel. tricky one!

The overflow on a turbo carb will always overflow unless it's blocked.

To stop it pissing fuel out, block it up.
