Advantage - it doesn't strip you paint and has a high temp resistance.

Disadvantage - Fook me it's expensive.

Both are horrible to deal with IMO

No brake manufacturer recommends silicone. There used to be an article on the AP Racing web site listing all the reasons to avoid it - don't know if it's still there

I've never used it...but never heard any good reports about it either.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

My A35 has used it in both brakes and clutch with no problems at all - even on track. Not changed in 10 years !

However I now use Dot 5.1 and change it very year in my other cars, because silicone is a sod to bleed free of air mainly because it is more viscous.

If the car is used on track then definitely change it every year.

Friends who race change it every meeting for consistent pedal response. I do it to keep moisture and corrosion at bay.

May well be anal but it can do no harm,.

Just a heads up, AP will not warranty any classic Mini component that uses silicone fluid, it degrades the seals. That's why I now stock the Millers racing fluid as it's DOT4 based.

Wil, with 560hp and 900kg they need all the help they can get. The brakes get very hot indeed so there is concern that it may be getting affected. 13" discs and cooling ducts.

AP may be right in protecting themselves but I have had no problems with seals, as above.

Not trying to encourage anyone to do anything, just relating my own experience.

It one of those things, if you think it works keep doing it. Between runs everyone in my class at hillclimbs gets heat guns out and sureform blocks and buckets of soapy water and make their tyres look like new. I sit on mine and have a brew.

I don't go any slower!

I've ran silicone brake fluid in my mini for 6 years and never had a problem! Amd have done a fair amount of trackdays issue free!
