I've just laid a couple of coats of primer in the engine bay and boot but I had a really hard time getting the gun into the extremities of the boot.

I'm using your standard lvlp gravity fed gun with a 0.5L cup. I did have an inline moisture trap on the bottom but with that on there was no chance of getting access, it was difficult enough even with the hose kinked up. I'm confident that I have enough coverage with the primer now but there's no way I would be confident spraying top coat like that.

Is there any tricks/smaller guns/90deg hose fittings that anyone can let me in on before I go trawling the Internet for a solution?

Maybe use a swivel hose adapter on the bottom and remote mount any reg/filter to a short distance away ?

You can get what they call mini guns etc..although not sure how much of a size difference there is.
I bought one of these for painting some bits on my own car after seeing a couple of reviews on youtube. And even a complete dummy like me seems to make a half decent job ( first time ever using one too )

There's an aussie guy does a lot of reviews on youtube...it does seem he is sponsored by spraygunsdirect, but covers a wide range so I'd hope the reviews are honest.

Other option for really tight areas I guess is aerosol them first ?

Take the inline trap off, can you get one mounted to the wall if require it.
Definitely use a smaller gun, I only have a cheap one but it is brilliant for many jobs.
Also do the difficult areas first and if you still can't get close narrow the fan and speed up your action to get a better covering on those hard to reach areas

Thanks for the suggestions.

The inline water trap is just cheap insurance as the wall mounted trap is fairly small. It's never a problem apart from the situation I have now with the tight access.

I'll get myself a small gun and a swivel adapter and go from there

You might struggle with the smaller gun to wet it all up , the boot area is a swine as it will allways fill with overspray so you carnt see what your doing . , as said get rid pf ghe trap , the weather is turning now anyway so so shouldnt struggle with water as much as in the summer .

reduce over spray by dropping the air pressure and open the flow up but you'll have to move a bit faster to not get runs as this is more or less just throwing paint at the panel not misting it but it can be useful in those blind corners and hard to get at bits where the air wants to push the paint out before it gets a chance to hit the panel

besides that get a fan and move some fresh air in there

I would say get one of those small guns used for painting wheels predominantly, and just do the awkward bits, then overpaint with a larger gun as normal so you know nothing has been missed.
