Hi guys, this week I happened to stumble over an Austin 1100cc engine. With hillclimbs regulations, the 1.4 multiplier on turbocharged engines would get the displacement to 1540cc. Anyone ever tried the Austin 1100 engine in a Mini and are there any differences in the engine itself ? I happened to read that it has the same block as the 999cc, but longer stroke, thus more torque.

Loads of mainly clubman cars used the 1098cc A series engine code 10H. It's a very long stroke crank and not good for revs.

Would be a lot of effort to end up in the upto 2000cc class.

Better to start with a 998, or 1275.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

To be fair the very first A-Series i built was a 1098cc. It was on really tight budget and couldn't afford a 1275. Revved to 7k without issue but i did do the full works to the bottom end. Couldn't even afford ARP bolts so used 12.9 cap heads instead. Im pretty sure it made more go than a 998 would have. Was about 65-70hp if i remember rightly, not bad for a road engine with zero budget.

As the others have sad tho. Useless for hill climbs. You either need an overbored 1275 or a 998 with a turbo.

I'm actually still stuck on deciding if I should go for a turbocharged 1275 or 998. I was asking on the 1100, as I happened to have one in the garage and I thought its better to ask if its good as a base engine.
