How do I compress this with the heat shield in situ?

Doesn't the centre housing have a taper that compresses it as it's pushed in?

Nope, that's what I'd have expected.

A taper seems the only way to do it though.

housing has a taper, or should have a taper, any pics of housing?

there should also be an oil thrower groove between seal and turbine, often choked with carbon, make sure its clean or youll have blue smoke on startup.

There's definitely no taper.




Thanks evolution, it was packed! I almost had to chisel it out.
but so was the heat shield
