1293cc turbo engine almost finished.... Q: The half moon oil seal that goes between box and crank doesn't seem to fit very well. When in the box it doesn't sit flush at either end. Do I need to trim it to fit or does it get compressed enough when the bolts are troqued? I noticed on an MPI engine that I have that rover seamed to have removed this seal and replace it with a curing sealant...

Personally - I trim it, such that it's 'just' a little too long. Also - add a little 'drop' of RTV onto each end for extra sealing.
Depending on the gasket kit used, some are 'just right' ; whereas in others it's around 1/4" too long... I never have leaks from this area myself incidentally, so don't worry too much about however you decided to do it.

I'm a fan of the cut it to lengh and a dab of hightemp RTV under each end method and i've had good succes with it.

I also use wellseal on all the other gaskets apart from the head gasket of course.

I always trim them as well. They are too long from the factory.

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

I use loctite 574 (the orange flange stuff) always worked great for me, even on "skint get me outta hassle till payday with no gaskets" engines.
