It makes me feel very old and sad to post this, but does anyone have any advice for cleaning windscreens as no matter what I do mine smears and streaks when I use the wipers. I'm pretty sure it's not the wipers or screen itself as they are both less than one year / 10K miles old, so I'm guessing that the screen wash is leaving a thin film of residue on my windscreen. So any tips for cleaning it and any recommendations as to choice of screen wash? I shall go now before I start discussing the relative merits of pencils vs pens when writing do diesel locomotive numbers or why the Austin Allegro was the best car ever made. The best screenwash i have used is sonax, it's not cheap but has a high dilution ratio, also probably best getting a glass polish to get rid of the crap off the windscreen, and also using a good glass sealant such as h2go or soft99 glaco will really really help, don't bother using rainx as it's absolutely wank in comparison. Are you sure it isn't the wipers, I had a similar issue with my BMW, I discounted the wipers as they were less than 6 month old BOSCH blades.

I broke in my clay mitt on the windows on my other half's car and suddenly the wipers were great... If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

yeah worth swapping the blades, bit of oil or derv from following a lorry and it can absorb into the blades... On 28th Aug, 2011 Kean said:

Thanks for all the advice, I clayed the windscreen and swapped the blades for some Valeo ones. Then this morning I was greater by dull drizzly weather, prime smearing conditions and I'm delighted to say that my windscreen stayed nice and clear, problem sorted. Isambard Kingdom Brunel said:

+1 on using a clay bar to remove contaminants from the surface. There are also glass polishing kits like Lake Country that you can use. |
