hi guys I am at the stage of needing a water feed to my gt 17 , I have searched the site for info and it seams that drilling in to the water jacket is probably the best option !! Now I have also read about one chap that drilled right through in to the bores 😳A good 100mm in ! Now I really don't want to do this and also my engine built by Benross and sat on my workbench so at this stage I have the option to do the job right !! I have also read that all drilling should really have been done before the engine was completed 😳And I realise this now but this doesn't change the fact that it has to be done !! Do you guys think it will be ok to drill ? Or could this cause me problems ? Any info on this will be gratefully appreciated as I don't want to end up like the poor old chap mentioned above 👍 |

could you make a spacer with a brass fitting to go on the back of the head and run the return to a fitting in the top rad tank ?

Hi at the moment I don't have a heater take off hole in the head but I'm wondering if it maybe easier to drill the head instead of the back of the block and use this to feed the turbo alone and return to top of rad , could I then use a spacer under the thermostat for the heater ? Would this work ok ? |

Why not use the water drain at the bottom of the Block? |

I had no problem in drilling and tapping the block for the water feed - it just needs normal care. If you were worried about going too deep slip a sleeve over the drill to prevent it going any further than the amount protruding |

When I drilled my block, I put some water in the cooling system so that as soon as I was into the water jacket water pissed out. It also got the swarf out. My build thread..

Thank you chaps for reassuring me ! I'm pretty sure I can manage it without drilling too deep 😊and filling with water first is a great idea , what size did you guys tap the thread ? Do you think it's a good idea to tap it the same as the turbo ( 14mmx1.5 ) so as I can use a banjo type fitting on both ends ? How did you guys do yours ? Thanks in advance 😀
