I had a look at the MPi wiring diagram and it is definitly wrong. The way it is drawn would show a full scale deflection on the needle all the time. I would think it works the same as the temperature gauge, the sensor sends a 0-5v signal to the ECU which than sends either a 0-12v or a modulated pulse to the gauge. When I get an MPi in next I'll check the cabling.

The oil temp gauge on the MPi reads directly from the oil temp sender, the ECU plays no part in it.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

It's been a while since i had a look at the oil temp gauge, what are the colours on the wires in the plug?

I don't have any cabling or plug sensor side
It's a two prong plug connector similar to TPS, crank position sensors etc. So have two wires coming out
And the back of the gauge is +, - and G

Attached a pic - MPI equipment, non mpi car so that's just a universal plug
Thanks for your help guys

Whats missing on wiring diagram is the G terminal on the clock and the sensor. If Sprocket is correct and the ECU is not involved I would imagine the Black and White go to the gauge - and + as per the diagram and the G is connected to the sensor with the other sensor connection going to earth. If somebody with a MPi can confirm the cable colours at the sensor as one black and the other any colour with a black trace then I reckon thats it.
